How can I wash a linen dress?

If you notice a stain or mark on your linen dress, try to remove it before washing. Once the stain has been dabbed away, you can wash the garment on your washing machine's gentle cycle in lukewarm water (above 40 degrees is not recommended). Avoid washing in cold or boiling water and be careful of overcrowding your machine with too many clothing items at once — this can twist or pull the linen fabric, permanently altering its shape. Steer clear of harsh laundry detergents and remember to separate your whites and colours — new linen tends to bleed in the wash. If you are hand washing your linen dress, use a gentle swishing motion and do not rub, wring, twist or stretch the fabric.

How do you iron a linen dress?

Linen is a soft, easily wrinkled fabric created from flax fibres. To avoid the fibres shrinking together and eventually breaking, do not dry your garment on high heat. Instead, air dry it on a padded hanger to prevent further creasing. Linen is nearly impossible to iron unless it's damp, so fill a spray bottle with fresh water to dampen the clothes. When your linen is damp, the iron presses the fibres quickly, meaning it's easy to remove stubborn creases and wrinkles. Before you begin ironing, turn the dress inside out and iron it on the reverse side to prevent flattening it to the point of creating a shine. Move the iron firmly and steadily across the garment, following the lines and the stitching. If your linen dress contains buttons, do not press the iron over the buttons, rather iron around them. Once you have removed the creases from your garment, let it rest and cool on the ironing board for five minutes, then hang the garment over a hanger to keep it smooth and wrinkle-free.

What shoes can you wear with linen dresses?

Given you can style it up or down depending on the occasion, linen dresses are a seasonal staple in every woman's closet and one of the most popular summer fabrics. For a casual sporty feel, consider pairing your linen summer dress with classic white sneakers — they're comfortable, breezy and add an unexpected edge to a more formal outfit. If you're searching for a pair of shoes that let the dress be the main focus, consider opting for chic and simple sandals. Perfect for low-key brunches and days by the beach, sandals look great with a monochromatic linen dress. For more formal occasions, a pair of kitten heels will do the trick! Whether you opt for a bright coloured heel or a neutral shade, the heel will elongate your legs and elevate your overall aesthetic, taking you from day to night with ease.

How to pack linen dresses?

Given the material is delicate and tends to wrinkle easily, linen clothes need to be packed carefully. If you do not have a garment bag available, you can fold your linen clothing, wrap it in tissue paper or a plastic bag and pack it at the top of your suitcase. To avoid damaging the fibres, do not pack your suitcase too tightly.

Once you have arrived at your destination, unpack your bag immediately and hang your linen items on a padded hanger. If you're travelling without an iron, hang your linen dress in the bathroom as you shower to provide a gentle steam. You can then lightly pull at the linen to flatten the wrinkles. If you've packed wrinkle-release spray, you can also dampen the linen and carefully blow-dry the creases out.
